A rich tenor saxophone sound, a deep sense of swing and spirited improvisation – when you hear all three at Jazz Cellar 11, you know charismatic saxophonist Pavel Arakelian is on stage. Familiar to club audiences from theSax Colossus concert series, Pavel brings his own voice to the jazz tradition through his distinctive tone, melodic solos and lively exchanges with his fellow musicians.

You can hear echoes of the great tenor players in every note Pavel plays – Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and Joe Lovano. Each has an unmistakable voice, and all three share a sense of freedom in improvisation. It’s a tradition close to Pavel’s heart. In his playing, a rich, unhurried melody can give way to a driving run, and a delicate phrase can spark an animated exchange across the bandstand.

Pavel’s work on stage ranges from acoustic jazz to projects that bring different genres together. At the heart of it all are his expressive saxophone sound, his feel for rhythm and his ability to tell a story as he improvises.

At Jazz Cellar 11, you’re close enough to hear every shade of his tone, catch the musicians answering one another and feel the moment they settle into a shared pulse. An evening for anyone who loves jazz for its melody, its character and the energy of musicians playing together.

The first 40 tickets – at the cheapest price.
