This ensemble is the true elite of Lithuanian jazz, capable of gracing the most prestigious festival stages. Jazz Cellar 11 is proud to present the new project by this collective, “Born in 1959.”

The concept of the project was created by Arkadijus Gotesmanas, who was himself born in 1959 and celebrated his anniversary last year. However, the same year also saw the birth of numerous jazz compositions and albums in the United States that revolutionized the jazz world. John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Don Cherry were exploring new forms of expression, while Ornette Coleman introduced the concept of free improvisation. This project is a tribute to that very epoch, to these jazz giants, and their lasting legacy.

This project is a dedication to our time, with most of the music composed by the young saxophonist, composer, and arranger Karolis Šarkus, who is well-known not only for his original projects but also for his performances with Collaborative Jazz Septet and Vilnius JJAZZ ensemble.

And alongside the initiator and composer of this project is the entire constellation of Lithuanian jazz: saxophonist Jan Maksimovič, trumpeter Dominykas Vyšniauskas, pianist Dmitrijus Golovanovas, and bassist Eugenijus Kanevičius. This powerhouse ensemble guarantees that the evening will be truly unforgettable.
