Jazz Cellar 11 invites you to a jazz evening dedicated to celebrating the life and music of one of the greatest legends of the genre – Sonny Rollins. The year 2026 has been a significant one for the jazz world, as on May 25 we said farewell to one of the greatest tenor saxophone masters of all time. This concert is a tribute to Sonny Rollins’ extraordinary career, whose innovative sound, unparalleled improvisational artistry, and immense contribution to the evolution of jazz have inspired generations of musicians.

During the evening, some of the country’s finest jazz musicians will take the stage, bringing their own unique artistic voices while paying tribute to Rollins’ creative genius. From lyrical ballads to energetic hard bop classics, the program will feature Sonny Rollins’ most celebrated compositions and performances that have become an essential part of jazz history.

Over a career spanning more than seven decades, Sonny Rollins recorded more than 60 albums as a bandleader, while his legendary album Saxophone Colossus is widely regarded as one of the most important recordings in jazz history. The album became a landmark in the history of jazz, and it is in its honor that Jazz Cellar 11 created the Sax Colossus concert series, dedicated to celebrating the greatest jazz saxophonists. Rollins himself was often referred to as the “Saxophone Colossus” and “the greatest living improviser.” He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2011 was honored with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.

Sonny Rollins was a true jazz innovator who continually pushed the boundaries of the genre through his creativity, courage, and endless curiosity. This concert will not only revisit the music that made Sonny Rollins a legend but will also celebrate the musical legacy that continues to shape the world of jazz today.
