Matīss Čudars Trio’s music, primarily rooted in the organic fusion of jazz, blues, and
country, is infused with Latvian melodiousness, a love for the vast worlds of African
and Indian rhythms. Matīss’s work in classical music, including the master’s degree in
composition he obtained this year at Yale University, lends structure to the trio’s
music, often transcending the usual boundaries of jazz music.
Matīss Čudars Trio’s debut album “Take Your Time” offers a glimpse into the
ensemble’s creative process, that provides aesthetic pleasure and emotional comfort to the listener, takes them on a walk, sometimes a light jog, through various unusually
arranged rooms, and at times subtly presents a more challenging riddle.
The trio’s concert at the cultural venue “M/Darbnīca”, Rīga, Latvia, shortly before
heading to the recording studio, in the summer of 2022, was awarded the “Best
Concert” nomination at the Great Music Year Awards of 2022.
